Bali is famous for its beautiful natural scenery. One of its attractions is the various beautiful beaches.
Unfortunately, one of the famous beaches, Kuta Beach, is threatening by serious erosion, nearly to the point of disappearing. Not only Kuta Beach, but the beaches in the Seminyak area are also facing erosion.
CNN Indonesia report states that Kuta Beach now hardly has a wide shoreline like in Seminyak. The abrasion has eroded dozens of meters of the beach, which has been lost over the past 20 years.
The condition is visible from the south to the north, starting from around the front of the Kuta Beach Task Force office to the front of Beachwalk Mall.
Based on the presentation by the Head of the Kuta Beach Task Force, I Wayan Sirna, the condition of the Kuta Beach shoreline is very different compare to its condition nearly 20 years ago.
According to him, at that time the length of the beach reached the land very far, about almost 30 meters. That was what make Kuta Beach attractive and a favorite for foreign tourists to sunbathe or surf.
“If currently there is only a small stretch of beach left. When the high tide season comes, the sea water will definitely rise, leaving only about 2 meters to the pedestrian area, and sometimes the [sea water] has even risen,” he said as quoted by detikcom, Friday (22/11).
He also often receives complaints from a handful of foreign tourists regarding the increasingly unattractive condition of the beach.
“For years, the government has also been trying to install barriers at the beach. The water keeps rising,” he said.
