Ministry of Finance Stops Infrastructure Budget in Indonesia

The Ministry of Finance has temporarily halted the infrastructure development budget. PT Wijaya Karya Gedung Tbk. (WEGE) stated that this presents an opportunity for the company to target the building and office segments.
Corporate Secretary of WEGE, Purba Yudha Tama, explained that if the decision is officially implemented, the company will change its business strategy to expand building and housing projects.

Response from the BUMN Karya Boss

“Well, automatically, if there is a budget shift from the government that was previously which allocates to infrastructure, we will indeed have to change our strategy, and we will target BUMN or private sector projects,” he said during a site visit to ITB Innovation Park Bandung, Thursday (21/11).

Yudha reveals that in the future, the company will participate in the government’s program to meet the need for 3 million houses. “Well, that’s our opportunity, so indeed, if there is a budget shift, on one hand, there is an opportunity for us in building construction and housing,” he said.

He mentioned that the Ministry of Housing and Settlements has also been quite active in inviting WEGE to participate.

“Even before, the Transition team was quite intensive in inviting us to see the explorations. Some of their collaborations with the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises also invited us to discuss what the future explorations and collaborations might look like, and so on,” he revealed.

The company also offers modular technology that will accelerate house construction, making it more cost-efficient.

“There are indeed several programs that we offer, including one of them being modular houses. So the concept later, as I mentioned earlier, is sustainability, environmentally friendly, and affordability, with competitive pricing,” he explained.

From the program of 3 million houses, he hopes that WEGE can handle 10% of the target. “Getting a 10% share is already quite significant for us, from the 3 million houses,” he concluded.
