Jakarta’s number 1 gubernatorial candidate, Ridwan Kamil (RK), apologized after his statement about widows during one of his campaign activities was criticized. In light of this, Ridwan Kamil expressed his apology.
“I sincerely apologize because humans are indeed prone to mistakes and errors, that’s the essence of it,” said RK at Pondok Pesantren Daarul Rahman, Cipedak, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, Friday (22/11/2024).
RK realized that the choice of diction he used was not appropriate in the noisy campaign situation. Even so, he admitted that he did not intend to belittle widows.
“Sometimes in a campaign, the situation is intense, noisy, and the sentences can be short, less elaborate, and the chosen diction might not be appropriate,” he explained.
Furthermore, RK explained that he is indeed preparing a support program to assist widows. Therefore, he hopes his apology will be accepted by the people of Jakarta.
“Regarding the card, what is it called, facilitating aspirations can be done by the governor or the DPRD, the point is to include it to the DPRD, on my left side, the aspirations can go to the DPRD members on my right side,” said RK.
Previously, Ridwan Kamil’s campaign speech at a volunteer support declaration in East Jakarta on Saturday, November 16, 2024, was deemed to contain sexist elements. Many were angry because Ridwan Kamil discussed poor widows in his speech.
In his speech during the Jakarta gubernatorial election campaign, he was accompanied by the Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, and a member of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives from the Gerindra Party faction, Ali Lubis. The man affectionately known as Kang Emil initially promised that he and his fellow fighters would provide assistance and welfare to poor widows.
“The widows will be supported by Mr. Habiburokhman, and will be cared for both physically and spiritually by brother Ali Lubis,” said Ridwan Kamil, whose remark went viral and was shared by several social media accounts.
Kang Emil’s joke was immediately met with thunderous applause from the audience and volunteers present. “Applause for our representatives,” added the former Governor of West Java.

Meanwhile, Ridwan Kamil (RK) met with the leader of the Daarul Rahman Islamic Boarding School, KH Syukron Makmun. There, RK was prayed for by the leader of the boarding school.
“Alhamdulillah, I was prayed for the best even though the fate is God’s will, which is the best for me personally, the best for my family, the best for Jakarta news, and so on,” said RK at Ponpes Daarul Rahman, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, Friday (22/11/2024).
RK feels grateful because he was prayed for by the clerics. According to him, as a leader of a civilization, it cannot be handled solely by the provincial government, but must also involve the element of scholarship.
“The establishment of a state is said to depend on four things: the knowledge of scholars, the justice of leaders, the generosity of the wealthy, and the prayers of the underprivileged. Now, one of the ways to ensure that leaders are present in the future is to always seek the knowledge of scholars, that is the intention, just to ask for prayers,” explained RK.
RK mentioned that he himself has prepared many programs for the Islamic boarding school. For example, programs in the economic field and infrastructure assistance.
“There are economic programs, one pesantren one business, welfare for Quran teachers, Friday sermon leaders according to the needs of the pesantren, and possibly infrastructure assistance, usually pesantren need new classroom construction, new infrastructure.” I think that will be one of the priorities,” said RK.
