KPU Jabar Reminds That Violations During the Quiet Period Can Be Subject to Criminal Penalties

The West Java KPU reminds that violations during the quiet period from November 24-26, 2024, may be subject to sanctions.

Therefore, the KPU urges the pairs of candidates for governor and deputy governor of Jabar, along with their success teams, to stop all forms of campaigning, both in the field and on socmed.

The Head of the Socialization, Voter Education, and Community Participation Division (Sosdiklih Parmas) of the West Java KPU, Hedi Ardia, emphasized that parties conducting campaigns outside the schedule may face criminal sanctions in accordance with Article 187 Paragraph 1 of the Regional Election Law.

“When there are candidates or their success teams who violate these provisions, the KPU fully hands over the enforcement of the violations to the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) in accordance with the existing regulations,” said Hedi in Bandung, Sunday (24/11/2024).

According to Hedi, the quiet period is a crucial time for the public to reflect on their choices wisely before casting their votes at the polling station. (TPS).

“Because at this moment, all parties are require to stop all campaign activities and give voters space to thoughtfully consider the candidates they will choose. It is hope that the public can take advantage of this moment to study the vision, mission, and programs of all the candidates,” he explained.

Remind the Public to Reject Money Politics

Hedi also reminded the public to reject all forms of money politics and to immediately report any violations to the authorities. He emphasized that clean and pressure-free choices are the key to a healthy democracy.

“Don’t let this quiet period become a turbulent one because there are some people who are conducting dawn raids. Hopefully, this election will be more integrity-driven,” he said.

In addition, Hedi hopes that all mass media, both print and electronic, will adhere to the rules regarding reporting during the quiet period by not broadcasting advertisements or campaign-related content.

“The media also plays an equally important role in maintaining a calm atmosphere by not producing news that shows bias towards one of the candidate pairs.” Even advertisements are not allowed,” he said.

Commitment of KPU Jabar

Hedi emphasized the commitment of the West Java KPU to realizing honest, fair, and transparent elections, and invited all parties to maintain a conducive situation during the quiet period until the voting day.

“We have demonstrated this by distributing the logistics for voting and counting equipment, which are already in each sub-district. We have also ensured to all PPK that the logistics storage warehouses are safe from floods and rain,” he said.
