A scavenger found a baby boy wrapped in a blanket inside a cardboard box in front of the Putri Mutiara Orphanage, Sukarame District, Bandar Lampung City, on Monday morning (25/11/2024).
The baby was first discovered by Ernawati, a resident who was scavenging for scrap around 4:30 AM WIB.
She found a cardboard box covered with an umbrella. After being examined, he was shocked to find a baby boy sleeping in the cardboard box. Next to the baby, a letter was also found, which is believed to have been written by the parents, containing an apology and an explanation of their situation.
“Sir, ma’am, I’m sorry, I need to leave this baby here. I just graduated from college and don’t even have a job yet.” I am not capable and not ready to take care of this baby. The baby was just born this afternoon right at the time of the Ashar prayer,” such was the content of the letter that was found.
To the journalists, Sukarame Police Chief, Kompol M. Rohmawan, confirmed the discovery of the baby.
He explained that the baby is being treated at Urip Sumoharjo Hospital.
“The baby was found by Ernawati around the location while searching for scrap materials. After finding the baby, she immediately took it home and temporarily cared for it at her house,” said Rohmawan, Tuesday (26/11/2024).
After receiving the information, the police immediately went to the location to conduct an inspection and took the baby to the local hospital.
“We took the baby to the hospital for further medical care,” he explained.
The police are also collaborating with the Bandar Lampung City Social Service to conduct further investigations regarding the perpetrator who abandoned the baby.
Until now, the investigation is still ongoing and witnesses are being questioned to uncover the identity of the baby’s parents.
“This case has touched the hearts of the local residents who are concerned about the fate of the baby. We hope to soon find the baby’s parents and uncover the reasons behind this action,” he concluded.
