The President Director of BPJS Employment, Anggoro Eko Cahyo, said that to achieve the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045, we must overcome three main challenges.
He conveyed this during the Social Security Summit 2024 event at the Birawa Assembly Hall, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (26/11/2024).
Eko said that Indonesia has been trapped in the middle income trap since 1993 or for 30 years.
“The first challenge is how we can get out of the middle income trap. So, according to this graph, since 1993 we have entered the middle income category, but until today we are still in the middle income category,” said Eko.
Not only Indonesia, but many other countries are experiencing the same thing. Where a country experiences stagnation and finds it difficult to transition to high income.
“And of course, we also see many middle-income countries. Many of them are experiencing stagnation and find it difficult to transition into high-income. Well, this is also what we are facing,” said Eko.
Secondly, he hopes for the utilization of the demographic bonus to achieve sustainable economic growth and the improvement of people’s welfare.
Eko said that Indonesia must take advantage of the demographic bonus opportunity until 2035. Considering that after this period, Indonesia will enter the era of an aging population.
“Where the proportion of the elderly will double from 2000 to 2045. Therefore, we see that this is a momentum we must pursue so that when the aging population occurs, we have already escaped the middle-income trap,” he stated.
Find a Solution

Eko also stated that solutions must be sought to alleviate the poverty that is increasingly emerging among the community and lacks a safety net.
According to him, if the era of aging population occurs, Indonesia will experience an increase in the dependency ratio of non-productive individuals to productive workers, known as the genius generation.
“So, productive workers will have a heavier burden next year because there will be more non-productive individuals.” “This condition will certainly slow down economic growth and also trigger the emergence of new poverty,” he explained.
Must Be Addressed Immediately
Eko emphasized that this condition must be addressed immediately because it will threaten economic stability and national productivity.
This is also one of the main focuses of the administration of President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto.
“If we do not address this situation immediately, it will threaten economic stability, national productivity, and reduce Indonesia’s chances of escaping the middle-income trap,” he emphasized.
“This challenge is certainly one of the main focuses of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, namely with the concept of ‘Indonesia Maju Bersama,'” he concluded.
