Gibran Visits Flood Victims in Kampung Melayu and Cawang

Jakarta – Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka directly inspected the conditions of flood-affected residents in Kampung Melayu and Cawang, East Jakarta, Thursday (28/11/2024).

Quoted from a written statement, at the first point, Gibran visited the residents’ settlement on Jl. Kebon Pala I, Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta. This area was submerged in floodwaters up to 2.5 meters high due to the overflow of the Ciliwung River on Wednesday night (27/11/2024).
In addition to greeting the residents, Gibran also distributed food aid packages containing rice, cooking oil, sugar, and other basic necessities. Not only that, to the children, he also distributed milk, toys, and stationery packages.

After the inspection in Kampung Melayu, Gibran next visited Bidara Cina, Cawang, which was also flooded up to a height of 1.5 meters. At this location, Gibran traversed the flood-affected areas and distributed basic necessities.

The Importance of Coordination

Previously, during a visit to residents affected by tidal flooding in Muara Angke on Wednesday (20/11/2024), Gibran emphasized the importance of coordination among parties in handling floods caused by heavy rainfall and tidal flooding that frequently hit Jakarta.

Gibran urged that the water pumps function optimally and ensure the flow of rivers and the cleanliness of drainage ditches are continuously maintained.

According to him, flood management measures must be designed with a long-term vision, including the importance of accelerating the construction of flood control infrastructure.
