KPU Reveals Sirekap Activities during the 2024 Pilkada

Commissioner of the General Election Commission (KPU), Betty Epsilon, reported on the development of the use of the Electronic Recapitulation System or Sirekap during the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections.

According to Betty, Sirekap can perform its function well as an aid for election organizers in documenting election results.
“The KPU has developed the use of Sirekap in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections. Based on the lessons learned from the use of Sirekap in the 2024 elections, Sirekap serves as an aid for KPPS in documenting the vote count results at polling stations,” said Betty to the media in Jakarta, as quoted on Thursday (28/11/2024).
Betty acknowledged that there were many questions from the public regarding the public information displayed by Sirekap through the official KPU website, www.pilkada2024.go.id.

“So, Sirekap public information throughout Indonesia can view the C result publication through the website pilkada2024.kpu.go.id, which contains information on vote acquisition and the tiered recapitulation process later at the PPK and beyond,” she explained.

Betty noted that the preliminary results from several regions have almost all the data from the C results. She ensures that if there is any anomalous data, it cannot be immediately released to the public but will undergo internal investigation first so that public confusion can be prevented.

“Even if there is anomalous data, it will not be published immediately. We will unpublish it first to check the data’s consistency with the form C results filled out by each district and city KPU,” explained Betty.

For your information, the data from Sirekap for the provincial level in Indonesia has reached 81.8% for the gubernatorial and vice-gubernatorial elections. Meanwhile, for the regional heads at the mayor and regent levels, the data that has been entered into Sirekap is 80.0%.

81.8% of the provincial data is spread across 351,203 polling stations, and 80.0% of the district-city data is equivalent to 336,319 polling stations.

KPU Reveals Several Issues Found in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections

The General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (KPU RI) stated that the debut of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections in 545 regions generally went well. However, that doesn’t mean there are no problems.

According to KPU Commissioner Idham Holik, problems occurred in several areas such as delays or re-voting, and conflicts at polling stations. (TPS).

“There are 110 polling stations that need to hold follow-up voting. Some of these polling stations are in Asahan Regency, Binjai, Deliserdang, Medan City, and Nias,” said Idham Holik to the media in Jakarta, as quoted on Thursday (28/11/2024).

Idham said that there are 7 polling stations in the areas that will hold follow-up voting. Then, two areas have been recorded as conducting re-voting.

“The data that has come to us from West Java shows two, one from Karawang Regency and the other from Sukabumi,” explained Idham.

Idham added that a re-vote also occurred in West Kalimantan at 1 polling station. Meanwhile, data from other regions is still in the process of being recapitulated.

Idham believes that the issues in the 2024 Pilkada are not without reason. The follow-up voting occurred due to natural factors, such as the floods in North Sumatra. Then, the re-voting happened because some voters used their voting rights more than once.

“Next, the cause of the follow-up voting is because there was a stage that stopped,” explained Idham.

Idham assured that every issue in the 2024 Pilkada will be resolved soon in the near future.

Idham reported that there was an extraordinary incident that he considered very prominent. That happened during the voting process in Jambi, where one of the polling stations there had a ballot box set on fire by a witness.

“We are still investigating it because there was a misunderstanding between the witness and the KPPS, and it is currently being handled by the Jambi provincial KPU,” Idham concluded.
