The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, emphasized that the decision regarding the targeted subsidy scheme for Fuel Oil (BBM), including for online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol), is still in the drafting stage.
Until now, there has been no final decision regarding the criteria for recipients of subsidies for the purchase of Pertalite.
The Energy Subsidy Formulation is Being Developed
According to Bahlil, the government is currently formulating an energy subsidy, both for fuel and electricity, with the main goal of ensuring fair distribution for all citizens.
“Clearly, we will make everything fair,” said the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jakarta, quoted from ANTARA, Friday (29/11/2024).
They have reported this plan to President Prabowo Subianto and are now waiting for the subsidy recipient data from the Central Statistics Agency. (BPS). That data will serve as the basis for determining the recipients who truly need it.
Ojol Drivers Do Not Meet Initial Criteria

Bahlil previously hinted that ojol drivers are unlikely to be on the list of targeted recipients of fuel subsidies.
This is because the vehicles they use are classified as business vehicles, while the subsidy is more focused on public transportation.
Mixed Subsidy Scheme for Efficiency
One of the options being considered is a blending subsidy formula, where part of the subsidy is given directly to goods (fuel), while the rest is distributed through Direct Cash Assistance. (BLT).
According to Bahlil, this scheme is designed to increase the purchasing power of the community and ensure that subsidized fuel truly reaches its intended targets.
