AFF Cup 2024: Not Joining TC in Bali, Here’s the Inside Scoop on Asnawi Mangkualam Joining the Indonesian National Team

Jakarta – Indonesian national team player who plays for the Thai club Port FC, Asnawi Mangkualam, is confirmed not to participate in the training camp (TC) of the Garuda squad for the 2024 AFF Cup held in Bali.

The Chairman of the National Team Agency (BTN) and Manager of the Indonesian National Team, Sumardji, confirmed that the 25-year-old footballer will answer the call, but his joining date will be later compared to his teammates who have started gathering since the end of October.

As is known, the Garuda troops are scheduled to compete in a Southeast Asian level tournament that will take place from December 8, 2024, to January 5, 2025.

Coach Shin Tae-yong has called up 33 names to strengthen his squad, with the Red and White troops starting their training camp in the Island of the Gods from November 28 to December 5, 2024.

There are at least 7 overseas players included in the call-up list for the Indonesian national team for this edition of the AFF Cup. Ronaldo Kwateh and Pratama Arhan have already joined the gathering, while Marselino Ferdinan is the new name who arrived in Bali on Monday (2/12/2024) afternoon WITA.

The Garuda squad is in Group B of the 2024 AFF Cup. Shin Tae-yong’s team must compete with Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Laos for a ticket to the next round.

Asnawi Mangkualam Answers the Call, but…

Meanwhile, Asnawi Mangkualam, whose presence is anticipated at the 2024 AFF Cup, has been confirmed to answer Shin Tae-yong’s call.

However, according to BTN Chairman Sumardji, the player will head directly from his club in Thailand to Myanmar on December 5, 2024.

The Indonesian national team will indeed depart for Yangon on the same date. This is because the Garuda squad is scheduled to visit the Myanmar national team’s headquarters in the first matchday of Group B of the 2024 AFF Cup on Monday (9/12/2024).

“Asnawi will join the Indonesian National Team in Myanmar on December 5, 2024,” said Sumardji in his statement on Monday (December 2, 2024).

Rafael Struick Will Follow If They Advance to the Semifinals

In addition to Asnawi Mangkualam, there is one more name that is likely to strengthen the Indonesian National Team in the 2024 AFF Cup.

Brisbane Roar player Rafael Struick is reportedly set to be released by the club if the Garuda squad reaches the semifinals of this Southeast Asian football tournament edition.

For your information, the Indonesian national team has never won the AFF Cup. In the last edition, the squad coached by Shin Tae-yong had to settle for a semifinal exit after being stopped by Vietnam.
