Jakarta – Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka attended the peak event of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities commemoration at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Central Jakarta, Tuesday (3/11/2024). On that occasion, he motivated the disabled individuals in the country.
According to him, people with disabilities deserve a comfortable ecosystem. He believes that people with disabilities can live productively.
“I believe, ladies and gentlemen, you are strong potentials to advance Indonesia, with your fighting spirit, perseverance, never-give-up attitude, and outstanding mentality,” said Gibran.
Gibran said that there are many examples of outstanding achievements by people with disabilities. Including, he said, in international sports events such as the Paris Paralympics and the ASEAN Para Games.
“The evidence is already there, for example, at the Paris Paralympics this year, Indonesia managed to bring home 14 medals, the most since 1976,” said Gibran.
Achievement
Gibran stated that at the 2022 ASEAN Para Games in Solo, Indonesian disabled athletes also showed impressive achievements. Although, he said, the event was held under limited conditions and circumstances.
“At that time, there were only about 5 months to prepare. The time was limited, the budget was limited, there was still PPKM, there was still Covid. But Alhamdulillah, it was carried out smoothly and festively.” And most importantly, Indonesia won, with a total of 425 medals, 425 medals, 175 gold,” said Gibran.
