PDIP Will Continue to Question the Democracy Castrated by Jokowi and the Brown Party

Jakarta-Secretary General (Sekjen) of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto stated that democracy in Indonesia is facing a very serious problem.

According to Hasto, the principles of democracy that should be in the hands of the people can actually be manipulated with the involvement of the ‘Brown Party’.

The term “Partai Coklat” or “Parcok” refers to the alleged involvement of police apparatus in the political process, particularly the 2024 regional elections.

Regarding this matter, Hasto stated that his party would not remain silent against those who attempt to undermine and kill democracy in Indonesia.

Hasto conveyed this during a press conference regarding the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections at the PDIP Party School in Lenteng Agung, Jakarta, on Wednesday (4/12/2024). Accompanying him were the Chairman of the PDIP DPP, Ahmad Basarah, and Ronny Talapessy, as well as the Deputy Secretary-General of the PDIP DPP, Yoseph Aryo Adhie.

“How precious independence and the sovereignty of the people are. That is why the PDI Perjuangan will continue to raise concerns regarding the various acts of killing our democracy,” said Hasto.

Hasto then revealed various facts that showed the attempts to castrate democracy.

Starting with the intervention of the Constitutional Court (MK) which has made various efforts to change the requirements for presidential and vice-presidential candidates. Thus allowing the son of the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Gibran Rakabuming Raka, to become vice president.

“What the PDI Perjuangan conveyed is inspired by the statement of Prof. Ikrar Nusa Bakti, who emphasized that it will take 5 elections to repair the damage to democracy caused by Jokowi,” said Hasto.

Furthermore, Hasto stated that they also found many state apparatuses who were undisciplined in the implementation of the 2024 regional elections.

Although the Constitutional Court has ruled that state apparatus, including the military, police, village heads, officials, and regional heads who are not neutral can be criminally prosecuted. Clearly, the Constitutional Court’s decision has not been implemented well.

“We see that there are still many power interests at play, including how the PDI Perjuangan also notes the power ambitions of Mr. Jokowi and his family, which apparently have not stopped with making Mas Gibran the Vice President,” said Hasto Kristiyanto.

Hasto emphasized that his party found so many issues related to the 2024 regional elections, not only in Central Java, North Sulawesi, and Banten, but also in several other regions including Jakarta and East Java.

“Due to the involvement of the Brown Party, due to the distancing from just democratic eyes, which base the law as a very important force in maintaining the integrity of democracy itself,” he continued.
