Jakarta – The behavior of a daycare worker in Sawangan, Depok, West Java, named Seftyana, was extremely cruel. (35). She cruelly poured hot water on a baby with the initials KCB.
“The victim KCB, aged 1 year and 3 months. The suspect Seftyana (35), a daycare caregiver,” said the Metro Depok Police Chief Kombes Arya Perdana in his statement on Wednesday (4/12/2024).
Arya mentioned that the abuse occurred on Monday (2/12). According to Arya, the victim’s parents had been leaving their child at the daycare since August 2024. The victim’s parents left their child from 5:30 AM to 7:30 PM WIB.
On the day of the incident, the victim woke up and cried because he had defecated. At that time, the suspect took hot water that would be used to bathe the victim.
“The victim woke up and cried because he had defecated. Then the suspect took boiled hot water and poured it into a yellow tub. After that, the suspect undressed the victim and took him to the bathroom to clean his feces using cold water from a red bucket,” he said.
The victim kept crying continuously while being bathed. Out of frustration, the suspect then took hot water in a bucket and poured it over the victim’s body.
The victim’s skin was blistered due to being splashed with hot water. This incident was reported by another daycare caregiver to the victim’s parents. Because of this, the victim’s parents filed a police report.
“Then, because the victim’s skin was peeling, the Suspect poured cold water over the victim’s body.” Around 07:30 WIB, Witness A (another caregiver at the daycare) arrived and immediately contacted the reporter and took the victim to the hospital for treatment. At the time of the incident, only the victim and the Suspect were at the scene,” she said.
Seftyana becomes a Suspect
Currently, Seftyana has been secured and designated as a suspect. The suspect is charged under Article 80 paragraph 2 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection and/or Article 351 paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code.
“Once they became a suspect, we immediately detained them. (The maximum penalty) is 5 years in prison,” said Kombes Arya when contacted.
