Jayapura – The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) of Papua Province announced a 51.73 percent vote share in the Papua Provincial Election. The simultaneous regional elections in Papua Province were only contested by two pairs of gubernatorial and vice-gubernatorial candidates, namely the pair Benhur Tomi Mano (BTM) – Yermias Bisai (YB) supported by PDIP and PKN, and the pair Mathius Fakhiri – Aryoko Rumaropen supported by 16 political parties forming the KIM Plus coalition.
As of today, Monday (2/12/2024), the Counting Room of the Witness Directorate of the BTM-YB Regional Winning Team has completed 97.83 percent of the TPS tabulation. Out of the 9 districts/cities where the counting has been completed, they are Keerom, Sarmi, Biak, and Supiori. In the City of Jayapura, there are 2 TPS remaining or 99.5 percent completed, and in Jayapura Regency, there are 7 TPS remaining or 98 percent completed.
Then, Mamberamo Raya Regency has 18 polling stations left or 93 percent completed, Yapen Islands Regency has 5 polling stations left or 98 percent completed, and Waropen has 12 polling stations left or 90 percent completed.
Therefore, out of the 2,023 polling stations in the Province of Papua, only 44 polling stations or 2.17 percent have not yet been tabulated.
“The total votes we have recapitulated show that the BTM-YB pair received 51.73 percent or 264,260 votes with a margin of 17,759 votes or 3.47 percent.” PDIP indeed has the potential to win the Papua Pilkada,” explained Benhur during a press conference at the PDIP Papua Office, Monday (2/12/2024).
He is confident that this year’s regional elections will serve as a platform for the people of Papua to express their aspirations and hopes for a better Papua.
“We encountered technical difficulties at the polling stations, but as the saying goes, ‘a small wave will never shake a big ship,’ so we remain optimistic that this process will be a good start for shaping Papua’s future,” he explained.
Voter Participation

PDIP Papua also noted that voter participation in this year’s regional elections was recorded in several districts below 70 percent.
Meanwhile, in the districts of Sarmi, Keerom, Supiori, and Waropen, voter participation was very good, above 70 percent. In fact, Supiori and Keerom approached the ideal figure.
“The total voter turnout in the Papua regional elections was 66.75 percent. This indicates that there are areas we need to improve together,” said the former Mayor of Jayapura.
In its stages, the district-level vote counting process for the Papua Pilkada will only be conducted by the local KPU tomorrow, Tuesday (3/12/2024) in the city of Jayapura.
