The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has stated that it has examined 30 witnesses related to the alleged corruption case of sugar imports at the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) in 2015–2016, which has implicated former Minister of Trade Thomas Trikasih Lembong, also known as Tom Lembong.
“Witnesses and experts are currently being examined.” This is only about 30 people (witnesses),” said the Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General’s Office, Harli Siregar, when met at his office in Jakarta, Tuesday (3/12/2024).
Meanwhile, he continued, three experts have been examined in connection with the case.
As for this Tuesday, the investigative prosecutor team at the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) of the Attorney General’s Office examined seven witnesses in the alleged corruption case involving Tom Lembong.
The witnesses being examined come from several ministries, PT Perusahaan Perdagangan Indonesia (PPI) Persero, and Sucofindo, as well as private parties.
From the ministry, the witnesses being examined are YW, a member of the Working Team for the Development of Sugarcane and Other Sweetener Plantations at the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), and MM, the Deputy for Food and Agribusiness Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs (Kemenko).
Next, the investigator examined witnesses with the initials SYL, who served as the Corporate Secretary of PT PPI from 2016 to 2021, and IRS, who served as the Senior Manager of Commodity Development at PT PPI from 2016 to 2017. Meanwhile, the witness from PT Sucofindo is ARA, an employee of PT Sucofindo in the position of Head of Trade Facilitation.
Lastly, from the private sector, the investigators examined EC as the Import Manager of PT Sentra Usahatama Jaya, PT Medan Sugar Industry, and PT Andalan Furnindo, as well as LM as the Accounting Manager of PT Andalan Furnindo.
Harli explained that the seven witnesses were examined for the suspect named Tom Lembong and his associates. “The examination of these witnesses is to strengthen the evidence and complete the documentation in the case,” he said.
