Jakarta – The Head of the Technical Division of the General Election Commission (KPU) of the DKI Jakarta Province, Dody Wijaya, explained that the one-round gubernatorial election provision needs to wait for a decision from the Constitutional Court due to the potential for disputes.
“Because there is still potential for disputes in the Constitutional Court, we certainly cannot yet establish the next stages, which are the stages of appointing the elected governor and deputy governor or the appointment of the governor and deputy governor entering the second round,” said Doddy when met at the Sari Pacific Hotel Jakarta, Autograph Collection, Sunday (8/12/2024).
Therefore, Doddy expressed that his side hopes the public can wait and give the candidates the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to file a dispute with the Constitutional Court.
“The Constitutional Court’s decisions can sometimes be unexpected, for example, there could be an order for a re-vote or an order for a re-tabulation of votes, or it could be that we, as the respondents, are favored or considered to have conducted the voting and counting properly.” So we won’t speculate, of course, we will wait. “Let us give the process and the constitutional rights of the candidates a chance,” said Doddy.
Today, the Jakarta KPU held a plenary meeting to determine the results of the 2024 DKI Jakarta Governor Election. In that meeting, the Jakarta KPU declared the candidate pair (candidates) for Governor and Deputy Governor number 3, Pramono Anung-Rano Karno or Si Doel, as having received the most votes in the 2024 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election.
