Jakarta – The Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) for the 2024-2029 period, Jusuf Kalla (JK), claims to have reported Agung Laksono to the police for allegedly establishing a rival PMI. JK stated that Agung Laksono’s actions were illegal and against the law.
“That is illegal and treason. We must oppose it because he poses a danger to humanity,” said JK during an interview on Monday, (12/9/2024).
The 10th and 12th Vice President of Indonesia also emphasized that Agung Laksono’s actions have been reported to the authorities. “It has been reported to the police that the actions are illegal and against the law because it is not allowed,” he said.
In line with Jusuf Kalla, the Chairman of the International Relations Division of PMI for the 2019-2024 period, Hamid Awaluddin, also strongly criticized Agung Laksono’s actions. Hamid explained that the establishment of a rival PMI contradicts the organization’s constitution.
“As soon as Mr. Yusuf Kalla was elected by acclamation, Mr. Agung Laksono created or established a rival PMI.” Constitutionally, this is unconstitutional. Second, what Mr. Agung Laksono and his group have shown is a reflection of a lack of chivalry,” said Hamid Awaluddin.
Hamid also explained that Agung Laksono had previously run as a candidate for the PMI General Chair, but did not meet the minimum support threshold of 20 percent.
“Because he ran and was nominated by several administrators, but did not meet the minimum endorsement threshold, which is 20 percent, while he only received 6 percent. Therefore, he did not fulfill the requirements to enter the contest.” That is why Mr. JK was declared elected by acclamation,” explained Hamid.
Requesting Sanctions for the Management Involved in the Establishment of the Rival PMI

Regarding the report against Agung Laksono to the police, Hamid mentioned that the new PMI management would handle the legal process further.
“Yes, first, a series of articles, namely unpleasant actions.” But let the new management handle it, I’m not in that position. “Because I am now a former official,” said Hamid.
He also highlighted the demand from the PMI National Conference participants for the officials involved in the establishment of the rival PMI to be given severe sanctions.
“Certainly, if you saw the inner atmosphere of the participants earlier, everyone unanimously requested that any current PMI administrators involved in that movement be given severe sanctions. That was the consensus of all the participants,” he added.
