Jakarta – The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Joko Widodo or Jokowi, is no longer considered a part of the PDI Perjuangan. This was conveyed by the Secretary-General of the Central Leadership Council of the PDIP, Hasto Kristiyanto, who confirmed Jokowi’s membership status in the party.
“I reiterate that Mr. Jokowi and his family are no longer part of the PDI Perjuangan,” said Hasto at a press conference at the PDIP party school, Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, Wednesday (12/4/2024).
However, three days later, on Friday night, December 6, 2024, Jokowi visited the private residence of President Prabowo Subianto in Kertanegara, South Jakarta.
This visit sparked speculation that the meeting was not just a casual visit. Senior researcher at Populi Center, Usep Saepul Ahyar, suspects that Jokowi also discussed current political dynamics, including the issue of his expulsion from PDIP membership.
Usep said that the opportunity for Jokowi to join a certain political party is very open, especially to the Gerindra Party which is led by Prabowo Subianto.
“The possibility of Mr. Jokowi becoming part of the Gerindra Party is very open. The relationship between Prabowo and Jokowi is very close, which makes it a possibility,” said Usep when contacted by, Monday (12/9/2024).
However, according to Usep, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) should just become a kingmaker without joining any political party. Because, Jokowi’s influence is still very strong even though he has stepped down from the presidency.
“Mr. Jokowi doesn’t need to join a political party anymore, he has already become a kingmaker in my opinion.” Mr. Jokowi without a party can still meddle here and there, and it turns out that it is still effective,” he said.
Endorsement of Jokowi

Usep gave an example during the simultaneous regional elections in 2024. He said that Jokowi has his own choices and does not support the candidates from the PDI Perjuangan.
It appears that the candidates endorsed by Jokowi have a greater potential for victory or an increase in electability. Usep gave the example of Central Java, for instance.
However, he said, at that time Jokowi did not join any political party. This is a sign that his charm, political strength, and political influence are still evident.
“Mr. Jokowi, without joining a political party, has his own following and strength even though it doesn’t form a system. So individually, he also has power, as a former president who is considered quite loyal to his supporters,” he said.
