Democrats Request Jakarta Gubernatorial Election to be Repeated, No Legitimacy from Residents

Jakarta – Head of the Strategic Communication Agency (Bakomstra) of the Jakarta Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Democratic Party, Taufik Tope Rendusara, has requested that the Jakarta Regional General Election Commission (KPUD) hold a Re-vote. (PSU).

This is based on the fact that there was a lack of voter participation in the Jakarta gubernatorial election, resulting in a lack of legitimacy from the people of Jakarta towards the winner of the election on November 27.

Taufik believes that the Jakarta KPU is fully responsible for the decline in voter turnout in the 2024 Pilkada. In this regard, the regional head election in DKI Jakarta must be repeated with greater voter involvement.

“The Jakarta KPU must take responsibility and the Jakarta regional election must be repeated because it resulted in an illegitimate election,” said Taufik in Jakarta, Monday (9/12/2024).

Taufik emphasized that elections resulting in strong legitimacy will bring political stability and social change during the administration.

Because the recognition and support of the community will create a stable government, allowing the government to make and implement decisions that benefit the society.

“In difficult situations, a government that has legitimacy from the public will find it easier to address problems compared to a government that lacks legitimacy,” said Taufik.

The Success Team of Ridwan Kamil-Suswono (RIDO) believes that legitimacy will open up even greater opportunities for the government. Not only to expand the areas of welfare that need to be addressed, but also to improve the quality of that welfare.

Therefore, to obtain and maintain legitimacy, three factors can be considered: symbolic, material, and procedural.

“I’ll jump straight to the third method, procedurally.” This method is pursued by holding general elections to choose the president and vice president, representatives, regional heads, or even a referendum to endorse a public policy,” explained Taufik.

However, he emphasized, the Jakarta 2024 gubernatorial election, where the winner only receives 25 percent of the total votes, can be said to lack legitimacy from the public.

He believes that the actions of the Jakarta KPU have violated the administrative process of conducting the Jakarta 2024 Pilkada.

“Because by consciously failing to perform their duty of sending or providing C6 forms to Jakarta residents who have the right to vote and tend to let Jakarta residents not use their voting rights,” said Taufik.
