Mysteries in the Bali Strait, Frequent Ship Accidents Occur

Bali – The Bali Strait is known as one of the most mysterious waters. Many strange incidents occur, ranging from natural phenomena to events related to the mystical.

The Bali Strait is the strait that separates Java Island (to the East) from Bali Island (to the West). This strait is famous for several mysterious incidents involving the sinking of passenger ships.

It is said that this happens due to the actions of supernatural beings or sea guardians. In fact, fishermen often get swept away by the ocean currents while searching for fish.

Besides having a long historical value that is identical to the Balinese people, this strait also has the legend of the story of Siddhi Mantra and Naga Basuki.

Siddhi with his staff was able to split the land of Java Island. This then split Java Island and created Bali Island.

This was done by Siddhi Mantra to punish his son who broke the oath to Naga Basuki. The legend of this story has been widely circulated among the Balinese community for generations.

Regarding the sinking of ships in the Bali Strait, several incidents have been recorded. Many ships have run aground while crossing that strait.

Location of the Sinking of KMP Yunicee

The waters of the Bali Strait are the location where the KMP Yunicee sank. About six of its passengers were declared dead.

In 2016, the Rafelia II ship sank in the Bali Strait. Additionally, the KMP Gerbang Samudera V, which was undergoing trials, also ran aground east of the red light in the Bali Strait waters or near the Landing Craft Machine (LCM) dock at the Gilimanuk Ferry Port.

There was also the KMP Munic III that ran aground in the same location, namely at the red light area near the LCM dock at Gilimanuk Ferry Port. There were no casualties in the incident, but the evacuation process took quite a long time.

Two Tug Boat units were deployed for the evacuation, but they were unable to tow the ship. Another ship declared missing here is the KRI Nanggala 402 Submarine. All crew members of that ship died, and their bodies have not yet been found.

A series of other ships that suddenly ran aground have also occurred in the Bali Strait. In fact, there are shipwrecks that have not yet been found.
