Jakarta – Political Communication Expert, Emrus Sihombing, stated that the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo or Jokowi, is now worthy of being called a politician. In his journey through the 2024 Pilkada, Jokowi is actively supporting candidates who are seeking backing.
However, the question is, at this moment, Jokowi does not have a political party. PDI Perjuangan, the party that raised him, has severed ties with him since the split in the 2024 presidential election.
According to Emrus Sihombing, as a politician, Jokowi certainly wants to be under the auspices of a certain political force.
Currently, Jokowi is considering which party can provide the best opportunities for him.
“He could become a cadre of a party, and I see that opportunity in the Gerindra Party or Golkar,” said Emrus when contacted by Liputan6.com, Tuesday (10/12/2024).
However, when considering the opportunities between the two parties, Emrus analyzed the psychological condition of Golkar, which is considered more dynamic compared to Gerindra.
“Golkar is very dynamic, very, what’s the word, it’s more appropriate to call it dynamic.” Why do I say it is very dynamic? Because it is always at the center of power, right? Even those who were not supported won, they joined there too, right? “So, the position for Mr. Jokowi could be one that provides a role that respects social status, but is not a decision-maker,” Emrus stated.
Difficult to Join Gerindra
Regarding Gerindra, Emrus sees it as too difficult for Jokowi to join. Because it is almost impossible for a party that has been built and nurtured by Prabowo to be handed over to someone else who is considered a new cadre.
“It’s impossible, right, Mr. Prabowo has built Gerindra with great effort?” “It can’t be given that easily, maybe a membership card could be made, but the position could be referred to as a party elder,” explained Emrus.
Emrus believes that Jokowi could establish his own party by utilizing his loyal volunteers like Projo. However, the condition is that the name must be changed; it cannot be called the Projo Party.
“Maybe it could be renamed, right?” If Projo only worships Jokowi. In fact, in a democratic country, if you cultivate a cult of personality, it will not receive a response from the public. “Because someone who is being culted can shift towards authoritarianism,” advised Emrus.
Regardless of the various possibilities of Jokowi joining a political party, Emrus said it would be better for Jokowi to remain a role model and national teacher rather than entering practical politics.
“Let Mr. Jokowi be a national teacher grounded in the constitution and Pancasila.” Not siding with any political force. I deeply regret it. “If you get involved in politics again like that, you won’t be a teacher of the nation,” Emrus emphasized.
