Fallen Tree Crushes Tourists in Monkey Forest Ubud Bali, 2 Dead 3 Injured, Here Are the Victims’ Identities

Bali – Two foreign nationals died and three others were injured after being struck by a fallen tree in the Monkey Forest Ubud, Gianyar Regency, Bali Province, on Tuesday (10/12/2024). Gianyar Police Chief AKBP Umar confirmed the occurrence of the incident.

“The police, the management of Monkey Forest, and the Gianyar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) along with the community have helped the victims, taken them to the hospital, secured the location, and cleared the fallen trees,” said Umar.

He further explained that the heavy rain in Ubud, accompanied by strong winds, caused several trees in the Ubud Monkey Forest to fall and hit some foreign tourists who were visiting the protected forest area.

“The trees that fell on Tuesday (10/12/2024) around 12:25 WITA were a Banyan tree, a Pule tree, and a Kresek tree, which fell on tourists.” Two foreign nationals died, namely Funny Justine Christine (female), 32 years old, a French citizen, and Kim Hyouen (42 years old), a South Korean citizen,” he said.

Identity of the Injured Victims

In addition, there were three foreign nationals who sustained injuries due to the fallen tree, namely Ansh Sonika Denai, a man from the United States who suffered a broken rib, Kushal Rajendra, a 42-year-old man from India who sustained minor injuries to both legs, and another injured victim, Sonika Swapan Laskar, a 43-year-old woman from India who suffered a head injury and is currently undergoing a CT scan.

The manager of Monkey Forest Ubud, I Nyoman Lilir, explained that as soon as the tree fell, his team immediately provided assistance with the help of staff and tourists present at the location.

Quickly, they transported the victims by ambulance to Kenak Medika Hospital Ubud for assistance.

Then, the Ubud Police and Gianyar BPBD also secured and cleared the fallen trees.
