Jakarta 2024 Regional Election Considered Realistically Two Rounds

Jakarta – The Jakarta 2024 gubernatorial election was won by the candidate pair number 3, Pramono Anung-Rano Karno, according to the official count by the General Election Commission (KPU), with 50.07% of the votes. However, the process is not yet complete, as the losing pair is now taking the hot potato of the disputed results to the Constitutional Court. (MK).

The Executive Director of Survey and Polling Indonesia (SPIN), Igor Dirgantara, noted that there are two teams of candidates who refuse to sign the minutes of the Jakarta Pilkada results declaration. They are the teams of candidate pair number 1, Ridwan Kamil-Suswono (RIDO), and the team of candidate pair number 2, Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardana.

Based on their claims, Igor continued, there are allegations of electoral fraud, marked by low voter participation due to the stalled distribution of C6 forms.

According to him, the allegation is quite strong if presented as an argument, provided it can be proven through the results dispute hearing at the Constitutional Court to push for the Jakarta gubernatorial election to go to two rounds.

“Yes, it’s quite strong because the potential for two rounds is more realistic considering the high potential for voter abstention, which is related to C6, meaning many residents of DKI Jakarta did not receive their voting invitation letters, indicating that the level of political participation is low,” said Igor when contacted on Wednesday (12/11/2024).

Igor explained that with the low voter turnout, it can be simply concluded that there is a problem in the Jakarta gubernatorial election. Moreover, this is exacerbated by the discovery of electoral violations, such as ballots being marked in an unconstitutional manner.

The Right of the RIDO Team to File a Lawsuit

“There are facts, many pieces of evidence showing the existence of invalid or marked ballots in the Jakarta gubernatorial election yesterday, such as in my area in Pinang Ranti, East Jakarta, and in the Thousand Islands, not to mention evidence that there was distribution of basic necessities to influence voter preferences, like giving rice, cooking oil, and even envelopes containing money, which are suspected to have been distributed massively to Jakarta residents during the quiet period,” Igor stated.

Therefore, Igor continued, it is legitimate for those who lost to challenge the findings of alleged fraud in the Constitutional Court.

“So essentially, it is indeed the right of the RIDO team and possibly the independent pair Dharma-Kun to present this evidence to the Constitutional Court with valid evidence that can demonstrate some of the things I mentioned earlier, which could be categorized as structured, systematic, massive (TSM) violations, making it appropriate for the Constitutional Court to either repeat the Jakarta gubernatorial election or have two rounds because that is the most realistic outcome,” emphasized Igor.

Until now, there has been no registration of the Jakarta Pilkada election result dispute at the Constitutional Court. The Constitutional Court is still waiting for the application to be registered three days after the official vote results are announced by the KPU since Sunday, December 8, 2024.
