Marisa Putri, who returned from a night out and killed a housewife in an accident, was sentenced to 8 years in prison, and her driving rights were revoked.

Pekanbaru – The panel of judges at the Pekanbaru District Court sentenced Marisa Putri to 8 years in prison. She is the defendant in a fatal accident case that killed a housewife, Renti Marningsih.

Marisa seems to have no objections to the verdict. She, along with her legal counsel, unanimously decided not to appeal, allowing the verdict to become legally binding within the next 14 days.

Marisa also received an additional sentence if she completes her punishment. The sentence includes a 2-year revocation of her driving rights.

The panel of judges deemed that Marisa made a fatal mistake while driving the car on the early morning of August 3, 2024. Her actions caused the victim to lose their life at the scene.

The judge found him legally and convincingly guilty of violating Article 311 Paragraph 5 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transportation.

“The defendant was proven to have driven a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs, which resulted in a fatal accident,” the judge stated firmly during the trial on Thursday evening, December 12, 2024.

After the verdict, the woman who is now wearing a hijab briefly spoke with her lawyer. Marisa returned to the defendant’s chair and stated that she accepted the verdict.

“I accept, Your Honor,” she said to the panel of judges.

No Comment

When being escorted to the court detention cell, Marisa did not comment when asked by reporters. Wearing a white shirt, Marisa continued on, escorted by officers from the Pekanbaru District Attorney’s Office.

The accident involving Marisa occurred early Saturday morning. She had just returned from a nightclub and was driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Marisa was driving above the normal speed limit for urban roads. Arriving at Jalan Tuanku Tambusai, around 05:45 AM WIB, Marisa hit the victim who was riding a motorcycle, dragging him several meters.

The victim’s family expressed relief at the verdict, although the sense of loss cannot be replaced. They hope this case serves as a lesson for the community to be more careful while driving and to obey traffic rules.
