Despite losing to Vietnam, the Indonesian National Team’s performance in the 2024 AFF Cup has improved.

Jakarta – The Indonesian national team suffered their first defeat in the AFF Cup 2024. The Garuda National Team lost to the Vietnam National Team in the third match of Group B.

Held at Viet Tri Stadium, Phu Tho, on Sunday night (15-12-2024 WIB), the Indonesian national team had to acknowledge Vietnam’s superiority with a narrow score of 0-1, thanks to a goal scored by Nguyen Quang Hai in the 77th minute.

The performance of the Garuda team when they lost to Vietnam received comments from former Persis Solo coach, Rasiman. The coach from Banjarnegara, Central Java, watched the match on television.

“Actually, our national team played quite well, spartan, spirited, with good organization, compact defense, but the Vietnamese players are indeed more mature than our players.” That’s the difference,” said Rasiman to Bola.com, Monday (12/16/2024).

“It’s really unfortunate because in the beginning, the Indonesian national team only relied on counter-attacks, but after falling behind, they were able to play better. It’s all about the courage of our kids,” he continued.

There is an improvement.

Despite the defeat, Rasiman observed an improvement in the performance of the Indonesian national team. The 51-year-old coach said that the performance of the Garuda squad was better compared to the previous two matches.

At the 2024 AFF Cup, coach Shin Tae-yong brought a team mostly composed of players under 22 years old, while Vietnam was reinforced by experienced senior players. “But, that’s the nature of a young team, I think even though they lost, the national team played better than the match in Manahan yesterday.” Of course, this becomes an advantage for the home game, we can steal full points from the Philippines,” explained Rasiman.

Rasiman added that the main difference lies in the maturity of playing. “Indeed, the only difference is the maturity in playing.” Vietnam plays more maturely because they have more international experience and are more senior compared to our young players,” continued the coach of Persikab Bandung. With less experience, young Indonesian players do need time to develop, but their potential is very promising for the future.
