Jember – Hundreds of houses in several urban areas in Jember Regency were flooded with water levels ranging from 80 cm to 1 meter on Thursday afternoon (12/12/2024).
“The flood hit the urban areas, namely the Sumbersari and Kaliwates districts, while the outskirts were affected in the Umbulsari District,” said the Head of the Jember BPBD, Widodo Julianto.
He said the flood was triggered by heavy rain in the Jember area starting at 1:10 PM WIB, causing the irrigation channels to be unable to accommodate the water flow.
“The water overflowed into the residents’ settlements with a height of up to 1 meter, and some even entered the houses with a height of 25-50 cm,” he said.
According to him, the number of residents affected by the flood in the Kaliwates District is spread across the Jember Kidul Village with 19 families, Kaliwates with 33 families, Kepatihan with 20 families, and Tegal Besar is still in the assessment process, totaling 72 families.

Then in the Sumbersari District, there are 49 families in the Sumbersari Village. Preliminary data on the flood-affected households in three sub-districts in Jember are KK or 362 people.
BPBD Jember stated that they also received an early weather warning for East Java, which has the potential for moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning/thunder and strong winds in several areas of Jember Regency.
“The TRC team conducted data collection, then handled the flood using a pump, and cleaned the affected residents’ houses,” he said.
Latest development, moderate intensity rain is still widespread in the Jember area, so the public is expected to remain vigilant against potential disasters.
“The team is still conducting assessments and handling the flood-affected locations,” he concluded.
