Jakarta President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto assigned Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to carry out daily presidential duties.
Gibran will serve as the Acting President of the Republic of Indonesia while Prabowo is on a state visit to Cairo, Egypt from December 17-19, 2024.
This is stated in Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 34 of 2024 regarding the Assignment of the Vice President to Carry Out Presidential Duties, signed by Prabowo on December 16, 2024. Prabowo visited Egypt to attend the D-8 Summit.
“Assigning the Vice President to carry out the daily duties of the President in accordance with regulations during the President’s state visit, official visit, and working visit to Egypt and the D-8 Summit from December 17 to 19, 2024, or until the date of return to the homeland,” thus reads the First dictum as quoted by Liputan6.com from the presidential decree, Tuesday (12/17/2024).
Prabowo asked Gibran to consult and seek his approval before implementing new policies.
“If within the assignment period, a new policy needs to be immediately established, then the Vice President, as the acting President, must first consult and seek the President’s approval,” explained the Second dictum.
Gibran’s assignment as Acting President ended when Prabowo arrived in Indonesia. Gibran was also asked to report on the execution of his duties when Prabowo arrives in Indonesia.
“After the President returns to the homeland, the assignment ends and the Vice President immediately reports the implementation of the task to the President,” thus reads the Third dictum according to the Presidential Decree.
Prabowo Will Attend the D-8 Group Summit
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto departed for Cairo, Egypt, for a state visit on Tuesday (12/17/2024).
Prabowo will attend the D-8 Group Summit and meet with Egyptian President, Abdul Fattah as-Sisi.
Based on Liputan6.com’s observation, Prabowo departed for Egypt at 11:35 AM WIB from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in East Jakarta. Prabowo, accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, used the presidential aircraft-1.
“Today, Tuesday, December 17, 2024, I along with a limited delegation of the government of the Republic of Indonesia will depart for Cairo, Egypt.” First, to conduct a state visit and second, to attend the D-8 Summit in Cairo, Egypt,” said Prabowo at a press conference before departure at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta, Tuesday.
He said this visit is the first state visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to Egypt since 2013. Prabowo stated that Egypt has been a friend and strategic partner for Indonesia for 11 years and is an important country in the Middle East.
“I will hold a bilateral meeting with the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.” Next, I will attend the D-8 Summit,” he said.
