Jakarta – The Indonesian Buddhist Student Association (HIKMAHBUDHI) urges the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to immediately arrest the fugitive in the bribery case, Harun Masiku. Because it is to restore public trust in the KPK.
The fact that Harun Masiku has still not been captured is considered a major homework (PR) for the KPK until now.
“Currently, one of the major unfinished tasks of the KPK is the case involving the failure to capture the fugitive former PDIP legislative candidate, Harun Masiku.” “How could it not be, it has been four years since he was named a suspect, and the search has gone on without any significant findings,” said the Chairman of the Central Leadership Council (PP) of Hikmahbudhi, Candra Aditya Nugraha, during a protest in front of the KPK Building, Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (17/12).
“Especially since we are still in the atmosphere of the anti-corruption month, which was precisely commemorated on December 9,” he added.
Hikmahbudhi has high hopes for the new KPK leadership. They do not want the actions taken by the KPK to be merely rhetorical, full of controversy, and blunt like before.
“The KPK must be able to set a 100-day work target by resolving cases that are in the public spotlight, one of which is capturing the fugitive Harun Masiku. The current KPK leadership must be able to restore public trust by resolving stalled corruption cases, especially those involving political elites,” he explained.
The case of the bribery for the interim replacement of a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) involving Harun Masiku, he said, is worth investigating further. Because it is suspected to also involve leaders of major political parties.
“Seeing the phenomenon of the KPK bowing down when facing politicians, it is not impossible that this forms a causality theory, namely that if a case involves political party elites, the actions of the anti-corruption agency will weaken,” said Candra.
Restoring Public Trust
The KPK, he said, is perceived by the public as lacking the courage to confront the powerful forces protecting Harun Masiku and to uncover the figure behind him.
Therefore, to address all of that and restore public trust, the KPK must be able to act boldly in resolving this case, by capturing Harun Masiku from his hiding place as soon as possible.
“Hikmahbudhi considers the Harun Masiku case as a structured power case involving many parties, so it is very important to resolve it immediately.” Harun Masiku is merely one actor in the case and certainly key to revealing which parties are involved,” he stated.
In order for Harun Masiku to be captured quickly, Hikmahbudhi suggested that the KPK collaborate with other law enforcement institutions, such as the National Police, specifically the Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim), and Interpol.
“The KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas) must also be more responsive and conduct periodic oversight of the KPK’s work related to the search for Harun Masiku,” emphasized Candra.
