Lampung – Barlian, a disabled grandfather who works as an online motorcycle taxi driver, had to face a terrifying experience when he became a victim of robbery in Sukarame II, Teluk Betung Timur District, Bandar Lampung City.
This incident involves a perpetrator who is a 19-year-old student at one of the universities in Lampung named Aditya. He has now been named a suspect for attempting to seize Barlian’s motorcycle.
Despite having physical limitations, Barlian did not remain passive when Aditya tried to snatch his motorcycle. He briefly wrestled with Aditya, nearly falling into the ravine.
“I fought to defend this motorcycle.” “The perpetrator pinned me down, I screamed, and I was almost pushed into the ravine,” said Barlian when met on Tuesday (12/24/2024).
Not stopping there, the perpetrator also threatened with a sharp weapon, pointing the knife at Barlian’s neck. However, the thick jacket he was wearing managed to protect his neck from the direct attack.
“Alhamdulillah, the jacket I was wearing covered my neck, so the knife didn’t hit me.” I didn’t think about anything, just thought about the motorcycle. This motorcycle is my lifeline for earning a living. “If I don’t have a motorcycle, I can’t work,” Barlian said with a trembling voice.
When the resistance took place, the prosthetic leg worn by Barlian came off, causing him to lose his balance. This was exploited by the perpetrator to push the motorcycle and attempt to escape.
“Because my prosthetic leg came off during the fight, the perpetrator had the freedom to escape.” The motorcycle had already been pushed, but I kept shouting, and the residents finally came to help,” Barlian revealed.
Fortunately, thanks to the help of the local residents and the quick response from the police, the perpetrator was apprehended before they could escape.
Barlian thanked the Bandar Lampung Police and local Babinsa for their swift actions.
“I am very impressed with the police officers and Babinsa who arrived quickly.” The perpetrator was also safe, not beaten by the residents,” said Barlian gratefully.
Barlian, a resident of Padanosari Village, Haduyang Subdistrict, Natar District, South Lampung, said that his motorcycle is the only tool that helps him earn a living for his family.
“This motorcycle is a part of my life.” If it gets lost, I don’t know what to do anymore,” he concluded.
Previously reported, an online motorcycle taxi driver became a victim of robbery by his own passenger under the pretext of being taken for a ride first in the West Teluk Betung District, Bandar Lampung City, on Saturday afternoon (21/12/2024). This failed robbery incident went viral on social media (TikTok).
The perpetrator’s name is Aditya, 19 years old. The mugging attempt failed after the victim shouted for help from the residents when threatened with a sharp weapon (knife) by the perpetrator.
Aditya, a resident of Teluk Betung Timur District, was beaten by a mob until he was bruised and battered, and was only rescued by the police who happened to be passing by.
The perpetrator initially ordered an online motorcycle taxi from Raden Gunawan Street, Rajabasa District, and asked the victim to take him to Wan Abdul Rahman Street, Telukbetung Timur District.
However, after arriving at the first destination, the perpetrator asked the victim to take him back to the Sukarame II area offline.
In the middle of the journey, the perpetrator brandished a sharp weapon in the form of a folding knife to the victim’s neck and forced the victim to hand over their motorcycle.
“The perpetrator threatened the victim by placing a sharp weapon around his neck, demanding the victim’s motorcycle,” said the East Telukbetung Police Chief, Kompol Muslikh, on Monday (23/12/2024).
