Yasonna Laoly’s Travel Ban Could Facilitate the Investigation of the Hasto and Harun Masiku Case

BANNINGYasonna Laoly can expedite the investigation process of the corruption case involving Harun Masiku and Hasto Kristiyanto.

Professor of Special Criminal Law at Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed), Agus Raharjo, stated that Yasonna’s testimony is certainly needed by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), hence he is being prevented or prohibited from traveling abroad.

“Well, what the KPK needs to investigate is Yasonna’s role in the case when he was a minister.” Is it true that at that time he did not issue a travel ban letter for Harun Masiku? That’s what has been circulating, right?” he said.

Additionally, he stated that the KPK needs to further investigate the backgrounds of Yasonna and Harun Masiku, both of whom are cadres of the PDI Perjuangan, in relation to the case.

“The KPK must investigate that connection, even though it is already clear and obvious that there is a connection,” he said.

He also said that the KPK needs to ensure whether or not it issued a travel ban against Harun Masiku, and it must be enforced by Yasonna as the Minister of Law and Human Rights at that time.

“If the answer is yes (ever, ed.), then Yasonna’s prevention from leaving the country is a logical step to address the Harun Masiku and Hasto Kristiyanto cases,” he explained.

Previously, the KPK barred Yasonna from traveling abroad in connection with the investigation and search for the fugitive in the corruption case, Harun Masiku. In addition to Yasonna, the KPK also imposed a travel ban on the suspect in the corruption and obstruction of justice case, PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto.
