7 Police Officers Suspected of Beating Budianto Sitepu to Death Transferred to Yanma Polda Sumut

MedanRegarding the death of the detainee at Polrestabes Medan named Budianto Sitepu, the police have detained 7 personnel from Polrestabes Medan.

Head of Public Relations of North Sumatra Police, Kombes Pol Hadi Wahyudi, said that in addition to being detained, the 7 police officers suspected of assaulting Budianto Sitepu until his death were also transferred to the Yanma Polda North Sumatra.

“Correct (transferred to Yanma Polda Sumut).” Now the seven suspected violators are being handled by a special cell (Patsus) as part of the follow-up investigation at the Propam Polda and Ditreskrimum,” said Hadi when contacted on Tuesday (31/12/2024).

Hadi, who once served as the Deputy Director of Traffic at the Central Kalimantan Police, also stated that the police leadership is committed to taking firm action against any member who violates the code of ethics.

“The commitment of the police leadership to take firm action against any member who violates the code of ethics, up to the PTDH sanction if proven guilty,” emphasized the Head of Public Relations of North Sumatra Police.

Conduct Detention

Previously, the Medan Polrestabes detained 7 police officers suspected of being involved in the assault on Budianto Sitepu. This 42-year-old man took his last breath after being detained for 2 days at the Police Detention Center (RTP) of Polrestabes Medan.

Information obtained by Liputan6.com, Monday, December 30, 2024, the 7 errant police personnel from Polrestabes Medan were detained in a temporary detention cell in a Special Criminal case (Pidsus).

This was conveyed by the Medan Police Chief, Kombes Pol Gidion Arif Setyawan, accompanied by the Propam Head, Kompol Tomi, and the Criminal Investigation Unit Head, Kompol Jama Kita Purba, on Friday, December 27, 2024.

Gidion mentioned that the 7 detained police personnel were from the Mobile Detective Unit (Resmob) and the General Criminal Unit (Pidum). Of the 7 people, 1 of them is an officer with the initials ID.

“Polrestabes Medan plans to transfer the case to Polda Sumut,” he stated.

Report at North Sumatra Police Headquarters

Gidion explained that the reason for transferring the case of Budianto Sitepu’s death to the North Sumatra Police was because the family, along with their lawyer, had filed a report with the North Sumatra Police.

“So, the case will be transferred there.” And these seven members of mine will also be transferred to the North Sumatra Police,” he explained.

Budianto Sitepu, a resident of Sei Semayang Village, Sunggal District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, died after being detained at the Medan Polrestabes.

Budianto’s wife, Dumaria Simangunsong, did not expect her husband to die after being arrested by members of the Medan Polrestabes on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, from Gang Horas, Sei Semayang Village, Sunggal, Deli Serdang.

Allegedly Abused

According to Dumaria, her husband was previously in good health. This housewife was shocked to find her husband’s face and head covered in bruises from abuse, and he passed away after being taken to Bhayangkara Hospital Medan.

Regarding the arrest of Budianto Sitepu, the Medan Police Chief, Kombes Pol Gidion Arif Setyawan, explained that Budianto and two of his associates were drinking tuak at the arrest location.

“Our member with the initials ID, whose father-in-law’s house was stoned, coordinated with the Resmob team who were on mobile that night and then arrested BS along with two of his associates who were suspected of carrying sharp weapons,” said Gidion.

From the arrest, the members of Polrestabes Medan immediately brought Budianto and his two accomplices.

“We suspect that violence occurred during the arrest process.” For certainty, we will conduct a thorough investigation during the inquiry process,” he stated.

Autopsy Results

Based on the results of the Visum et Repertum (VeR), Gidion acknowledged the presence of bleeding in the brain, at the back of Budianto Sitepu’s head. There were also open wounds on the cheek or jaw, and there were also wounds on the eye area.

“This is in the autopsy report where we concluded that there was indeed blunt force trauma,” he stated.

Regarding Budianto’s two colleagues who were also detained, Gidion acknowledged that both have been released, as there was no evidence against them and their status was changed to witnesses.

“I have also expressed my condolences to the victim’s family, including two of his colleagues.” They are in good condition, and we ensure their comfort,” he emphasized.
