Becoming a Corruption Suspect, Jakarta’s Head of Culture and Tourism and Head of Utilization Threatened with Dismissal

JakartaThe High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati) of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta has named three suspects in the alleged Corruption Crime (Tipikor) case at the Cultural Office (Disbud). The embezzled funds were sourced from the 2023 Regional Budget (APBD).

Two suspects are Civil Servants (PNS) of the Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov), namely the Head of the Cultural Office with the initials IHW and the Head of the Utilization of the Jakarta Cultural Office with the initials MFM. Meanwhile, another suspect is the owner of an unregistered event organizer with the initials GAR.

In response to the designation of the two civil servants as suspects, the Jakarta Provincial Government has suspended IHW and MFM from their positions. Thus, the status of both civil servants is automatically suspended temporarily.

“To ensure the smooth process of the investigation and maintain the integrity of public services, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has taken firm steps by suspending the Head of the Culture Office and the relevant Head of Division,” said Acting Head of the Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Office (Diskominfotik) Budi Awaludin in a written statement, quoted on Friday (3/1/2025).

Budi said that the temporary dismissal of IHW and MFM’s civil servant status refers to Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2020, Amendment to PP Number 11 of 2017 concerning Civil Servant Management, or because the related civil servants have been designated as suspects.

Suspended

The temporary suspension of the civil servant status of the Head of the Cultural and Tourism Office and the Head of the Division is enforced while waiting for a copy of the suspect determination letter and the detention order from the authorized agency. Then, the positions of the Head of the Cultural and Tourism Office and the related Head of Division will be filled by an Acting Officer.

“If a civil servant is proven guilty in court and sentenced to a minimum of two years in prison, then in accordance with Government Regulation Number 94 of 2021 concerning Civil Servant Discipline, the individual can be dismissed dishonorably,” Budi stated.

The Jakarta Provincial Government reaffirms its commitment to maintaining clean, transparent, and accountable governance for all ASN ranks. Budi assured that the Jakarta Provincial Government will cooperate with the High Prosecutor’s Office in thoroughly investigating this case.

“The government also ensures that the necessary data and information for the legal process are available and accessible in accordance with the applicable regulations,” he said.
