Chronology of the Chain Collision on the Situbondo Highway that Killed One Person

Banyuwangi -A minibus was involved in an accident on the Situbondo-Banyuwangi highway, specifically in Kapuran Hamlet, Ketapang Village, Kalipuro District, on Sunday (1/5/2025).

In this incident, the angkot driver died at the scene. Meanwhile, the passengers sustained injuries and are now being treated in the hospital.

Head of the Traffic Law Enforcement Unit at the Banyuwangi Police, AKP Heru Slamet, stated that the accident occurred around 09:30 AM WIB. Involving one minibus, one tank truck, and one motorcycle.

At that time, a Suzuki Carry minibus with license plate P-1103-XXX, driven by a 42-year-old man with the initials DAP from Kalipuro, was traveling from south to north. This minibus was carrying a group of 8 residents from Mumbulsari District, Jember.

Behind this minibus, a Honda Beat motorcycle with license plate P-4039-XXX was riding, driven by Y, 52 years old, with S, 52 years old, as a passenger. Both are residents of Kalipuro.

At the scene of the incident, a Hino tank truck with license plate N-9230-XXX, driven by EH, 35 years old, a resident of Purwodadi, Pasuruan, was approaching from the opposite direction.

“Upon arriving at the scene, the Hino tanker truck was suspected to have veered slightly to the right, causing it to collide with the minibus.” The motorcycle behind the minibus couldn’t avoid it and crashed into the back of the minibus, falling into the ditch,” said Heru.

As a result of the collision, the minibus was severely damaged. The angkot driver also died at the scene of the incident. Meanwhile, the angkot passengers and the motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and are now being treated at RSUD Blambangan.

Heru detailed the 8 passengers of the minibus, namely MH, 40 years old; RRJ, 16 years old; DH, 26 years old; RJ, 25 years old; H, 50 years old; S, 43 years old; AKM, 3 years old; N, 44 years old.

“The passengers sustained injuries and are being treated at RSUD Blambangan,” explained Heru.

The officers of the Gakkum Unit of the Banyuwangi Police Traffic Unit are still continuing to question witnesses for further investigation.
