PSSI has officially announced Patrick Kluivert as the coach of the Indonesian National Team, replacing Shin Tae-yong. Quoted from the official PSSI website, Kluivert has been officially announced as the new coach of the Indonesian National Team.
“PSSI officially appointed Patrick Kluivert as the new head coach of the Indonesian national team.” The Dutch coach has been contracted for two years from 2025 to 2027 with an option for contract extension,” wrote the PSSI statement as quoted from their official website, Wednesday (8/1).
Not alone, Kluivert will be assisted by several assistant coaches, along with two local coaches to train the Indonesian National Team.
“When coaching the Garuda Squad, Kluivert will be assisted by several Dutch assistant coaches such as Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat.” In addition, there will be two local Indonesian coaches who will serve as assistant coaches,” the statement continued.
Kluivert is a legendary player of the Dutch national team. In his era, he was the best striker in the Netherlands and played for several top European clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam, AC Milan, Barcelona, CF Valencia, Newcastle United, PSV, and Lille.

After retiring as a player in 2008, the coach born in Amsterdam, Netherlands on July 1, 1976, immediately began his career as a coach. He started as an assistant coach at AZ Alkmaar, NEC Nijmegen, Brisbane Roar. Next, he became the coach of Jong Twente and successfully won the championship title.
Kluivert also served as an assistant coach to Louis van Gaal on the Dutch national team, which finished third in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. In 2015, Kluivert was appointed as the head coach of the Curaçao national team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2017 Caribbean Cup qualifiers.
Other experiences include serving as the sports director at Paris Saint-Germain and the Barcelona academy, coaching the Ajax A1 (U-19) team, and being an assistant to Clarence Seedorf in the Cameroon national team.
Before going to Indonesia, he was the coach of the Turkish club, Adana Demirspor. In addition, Kluivert also served as the director of the FC Barcelona academy.
Kluivert is scheduled to arrive in Indonesia on Saturday (11/1) and will be officially introduced to the public the following day.
Kluivert’s debut will begin when Indonesia faces Australia at the Sydney Football Stadium on March 20 and Bahrain at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta on March 25. The match is a continuation of the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, Group C, Asian zone.
As is known, PSSI officially dismissed Shin Tae-yong from his position as the head coach of the Indonesian national team. This was revealed by PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir in Jakarta on Monday (6/1).
“Of course, we thank coach Shin for his performance so far, our relationship is very good, and we will do our best for the desired programs,” said Erick.
