Agus Buntung Cries and Refuses to Be Imprisoned in the Jail

Mataram – A person with a disability, identified as IWAS or Agus Buntung, a suspect in a sexual harassment case in NTB, has finally been detained at the Class II A Lombok Barat Prison, after previously being under house arrest.

“So, starting today and for the next 20 days, we are placing the first detention of the concerned individual at Class II A Lombok Barat Prison,” said Mataram District Attorney Ivan Jaka in Mataram, Thursday (1/9/2025).

Suddenly, the detention made Agus Buntung cry and refuse to be held in prison. The prosecutor’s consideration to change Agus’s detention status from house arrest during the police investigation stage to detention in the detention center was based on the threat of punishment from the criminal charges applied in the case file.

“In addition to the threat of criminal punishment, we are considering the number of victims exceeding 15 people,” he said.

The public prosecutor had previously rejected the suspect’s request to remain under house arrest, considering the suspect’s condition as a person with a disability without two arms.

Ivan emphasized that his side guarantees the fulfillment of the rights of the suspect as a person with disabilities while serving their detention status at the Class II A Lombok Barat Prison.

“We guarantee that the suspect will receive special facilities and assistance while serving their detention at Class II A Lombok Barat Prison,” he said.

In the case file, Agus faces a 12-year prison sentence according to the charges under Article 6 letter A and/or letter C in conjunction with Article 15 paragraph (1) letter E of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning Sexual Violence Crimes.
