Observers Believe PDIP Will Remain Resilient

Entering its 52nd year, PDIP is believed to remain resilient in the political arena of the homeland. The specter of losing the 2024 Presidential Election, failing to secure a victory in their own backyard during the 2024 Regional Elections, or the law enforcement process targeting party elites did not intimidate the PDIP.

Political science lecturer at UIN Jakarta and Executive Director of Parameter Politik, Adi Prayitno, believes that PDIP will continue to endure considering that the party led by Megawati Soekarnoputri has successfully secured a hat trick, or three consecutive victories in the legislative elections from 2014 to 2024.

However, Adi continued, in the 2024 legislative elections, PDIP will be without Joko Widodo, who was supported by the party in two presidential elections, namely in 2014 and 2019. “(PDIP will) survive. The proof is that even after Jokowi left, PDI-P still won the legislative elections, although they were beaten badly in the presidential election,” he said to Media Indonesia, Friday (10/1).

Separately, the Director of Algoritma Research and Consulting, Aditya Perdana, opined that PDIP is one of the few political parties in Indonesia that has managed to survive since the New Order era until now. He mentioned several survey results from polling agencies that revealed voters actually dislike new parties more than old ones.

“It means that the old parties are becoming more entrenched in society.” More than 20 years after the reformation, it turns out that all parties, including PDI-P, have had their ups and downs. The ups and downs outside and inside the government, but if we want to talk about resilience, it’s the PDI-P,” explained Aditya.

According to him, the political direction of PDIP under Megawati’s leadership is different from that of Golkar Party, which is also an old party. When they lost in the presidential election contest, for example, PDIP almost did not want to join the government. It remains in the opposition position.

This is different from Golkar, which holds the principle of remaining in government, even if the champion they supported in the presidential election loses.

Regarding the designation of Hasto as a suspect in the bribery case involving fugitive Harun Masiku by the KPK, Aditya said that it is actually not a big problem for PDIP. Because, during the New Order era, PDIP had experienced even more difficult situations. Even though responding to the law enforcement process harshly, he believes Megawati also remains measured in taking steps.

“Don’t think that Mrs. Mega is no longer in the process.” Do you want a choice that’s tough like a thug? Or on the other hand, he might also be able to speak directly to Mr. Prabowo, saying, “Don’t do this, don’t do that.” Maybe. What’s the bargain, what’s the transaction,” Aditya concluded.

It is known that PDIP will celebrate its 52nd anniversary at the Party School, Lenteng Agung, Jakarta, later this afternoon. According to the schedule, Megawati will deliver her political speech at the event at 1:30 PM WIB. This will be Megawati’s first speech since the KPK named Hasto as a suspect.
