Putri Kusuma Wardani’s Journey Halted in the Quarterfinals of the Malaysia Open

Indonesian women’s singles player Putri Kusuma Wardani lost in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Malaysia Open on Friday, surrendering 13-21, 21-15, and 16-21 to Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon in the quarterfinals at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur.

Intanon controlled the first set, leading by a wide margin of 20-11. Although Putri saved a match point with two consecutive points, the effort couldn’t quell her opponent’s dominance.

In the second game, Putri tried to play more aggressively, making the match more intense. Putri continued to control the game, forcing a rubber game after winning the second game 21-15.

Unfortunately, that dominance could not be continued by Putri. Intanon surged ahead 6-0 before being chased down to 7-8 by Putri.

The world number 17 women’s singles player did not give up and briefly led 12-9 against the 2013 world champion. However, at a score of 14-14, Intanon took the lead and maintained it until she won the final game with a score of 21-16.

Indonesia still hopes that the women’s doubles pair Lanny Tria Mayasari/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti will meet the Chinese representatives Jia Yi Fan/Zhang Shu Xian, scheduled for 15:40 WIB.
