Gunung Ibu Erupts Again at 1,000 Meters, Alert Status Remains

Jakarta -Gunung Ibu erupted again on Wednesday (22/1/2025) at 10:45 WIT. The report from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) stated that the eruption column height of Gunung Ibu was observed to reach 1,000 meters above the summit, or approximately 2,325 meters above sea level.

The ash column from the eruption of Mount Ibu was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 19 mm and a duration of 61 seconds.

The community and tourists around Mount Ibu are prohibited from activities within a radius of 5 km and a sectoral extension of 6 km towards the crater opening in the northern part of the active crater of Mount Ibu.

If there is ash rain, people who are active outside the house are advised to use nose and mouth protection (mask) and eye protection (glasses).

All parties are urged to maintain a conducive atmosphere in the community, refrain from spreading false narratives or hoaxes, and not be provoked by issues with unclear sources. The public should always follow the guidance from the local government.

Throughout early 2025, Gunung Ibu has recorded 265 eruptions. Until today, Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 11:21 AM WIB, Mount Ibu remains on Alert status (Level IV).

Lava Pijar

Previously, Gunung Ibu in West Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, erupted again early Tuesday morning (January 21, 2025), around 01:48 WIT, simultaneously launching a glowing lava flow 200 meters above the summit.

“Mount Ibu erupted with an ash column height observed at 1,000 meters,” said Richard Chaniago, Officer at the Mount Volcano Observation Post (PGA) Ibu.

The ash column observed is gray with a thick intensity leaning towards the west. This eruption was recorded on the seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 28 mm and a duration of about 50 seconds.

He explained that during the eruption of the volcano, which is 1,325 meters above sea level, a glowing lava column was observed reaching 200 meters above the mountain’s peak.
