Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries: Coastal Fence Owners Fined IDR 18 Million Per Kilometer

JakartaMinister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono stated that owners of sea fences in the northern coastal area (pantura), Tangerang Regency, Banten, will be subject to an administrative fine of Rp18 million per kilometer.

Trenggono explained that fines will definitely be imposed, although he has not yet detailed the total fines for the owners of the 30.16-kilometer-long sea fence in the waters of Tangerang.

“Not sure about the exact total yet, it depends on the area.” If (the fence in the waters of Tangerang) is 30 kilometers, then per kilometer it costs Rp18 million,” said Sakti Wahyu Trenggono when met at the Jakarta Presidential Palace, Wednesday (22/1/2025) as reported by Antara.

Trenggono explained that the investigation into the ownership of the sea fence is still being deepened in coordination with the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency, Nusron Wahid.

“As soon as we catch (the perpetrator), they will be fined.” “From us, the penalty is a fine because it leans more towards an administrative sanction; if there are criminal elements, that falls under the police,” said Trenggono.

Previously, ATR Minister Nusron Wahid mentioned that there were two individuals suspected of being the perpetrators, and their case is now a topic of discussion to be handed over to law enforcement authorities.

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has summoned and conducted an examination of two fishermen who claimed to have installed the sea fence. The investigation of the fishermen who claimed to have installed the sea fence is still ongoing.

The installation of the sea fence in the waters of Tangerang also serves as a correction for the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) to monitor all movements through the “Ocean Big Data” system.

“I continuously correct and improve with the system.” “Actually, if we have fully implemented everything, the Ocean Big Data will already be known,” said the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
