Prabowo Emphasizes Development in Eastern Indonesia as a Priority, Especially Papua

Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto requested that infrastructure development in the Eastern Indonesia region, particularly Papua, be prioritized. Prabowo said that the four new provinces in Papua must receive infrastructure support.

“The President emphasized development in the eastern region of Indonesia, particularly Papua, as a priority.” “With the establishment of four new provinces, special attention needs to be given,” said the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) after a meeting with Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Tuesday (18/2/2025).
He conveyed the support provided for the four new provinces in Papua, namely, the provision of basic infrastructure, land, housing, and transportation facilities. AHY mentioned that this is important to support the development of the region.

“Moreover, transmigration must be able to open up new economic opportunities for the local community,” he said.
In this meeting, AHY said, Prabowo emphasized the importance of infrastructure development that directly impacts national and local economic growth, as well as the improvement of community welfare.
AHY stated that the target of food self-sufficiency and industrial downstreaming, which are Prabowo’s priority programs, heavily depend on infrastructure.

“We all understand that achieving the targets of food self-sufficiency, energy self-sufficiency, industrial downstreaming, and strengthening human resources through the education and health sectors greatly depends on adequate infrastructure,” explained AHY.
Priority

He realizes the need for proper prioritization to support Prabowo’s policies amidst budget efficiency. However, AHY does not want to overlook the need for strategic infrastructure planning and development for the present and future.
“We continue to seek funding solutions that do not solely rely on the state budget or fiscal resources, but also leverage credible and sustainable investments, both domestically and internationally.” The involvement of the private sector is an important factor in supporting the implementation of infrastructure projects,” he said.
