The 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially declared his support for the gubernatorial and vice-gubernatorial candidates Ridwan Kamil and Suswono in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election. Jokowi also stated his willingness to join in on grassroots visits if invited by Ridwan Kamil while still in Jakarta.
“Yes (join the blusukan), if invited, if asked,” said Jokowi at Kaizen Heritage, Central Jakarta, Monday (18/11/2024).
According to Jokowi, the last week of the campaign period is the best and most decisive time. Therefore, he said, joint hard work is needed in the final moments.
Therefore, Jokowi visited the regions where the candidates he supports in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections are running. He had previously also been on the move following the campaign of the Central Java gubernatorial and vice-gubernatorial candidates Ahmad Luthfi-Taj Yasin in Purwokerto, Banyumas.
“Everything is indeed at this final stage, so we have to work hard. I came because I support them,” said the former mayor of Solo.
“In Central Java, I also came because I support them. I was invited to Jakarta, I came because I support them,” Jokowi continued.
Furthermore, Jokowi admitted that there are candidate pairs in other regions that he also supports. However, the limited time does not allow Jokowi to visit them one by one.
“There are (other regions), but the time doesn’t allow me to visit all of them,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi believes that Ridwan Kamil is capable of solving issues related to spatial planning, traffic congestion, flooding, and pollution in Jakarta.

Jokowi stated that Ridwan Kamil had once been a mayor. However, he said, managing a city within a small management scope is not easy.
“And he already has that experience. Secondly, in the scope of larger management, as a governor, he also has experience,” said Jokowi.
The former mayor of Solo stated that the most important thing is that Ridwan Kamil also has the appropriate knowledge. Thus, he said, he would be suitable for managing Jakarta’s spatial planning.
“Mr. Ridwan Kamil is a graduate of the Architecture Engineering program at ITB and obtained a master’s degree in urban design from Berkeley. In urban design, there are fields such as city planning, urban landscape, and so on,” he explained.
