MPR Leaders Urge Authorities to Take Firm Action Against Political Money Actors in the 2024 Regional Elections

Deputy Chairman of the MPR, Eddy Soeparno, acknowledged that money politics or cash politics must be watched out for, especially as the voting time approaches in the 2024 Regional Elections.

“It has always been a problem in direct elections, whether legislative or executive, the prevalence and increasing intensity of money politics, so I think it needs to be watched out for,” said Eddy at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday (26/11/2024).
Eddy urged law enforcement to take firm action against all perpetrators of money politics, including the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), which he also called upon to be decisive. “Law enforcement must take firm and consistent action if money politics practices are found, and the Bawaslu organizers in this case must also be firm.” Including the community, whether it is a coalition of civil society or the general public, who feel that their rights are not fulfilled due to money politics,” he said.

“Their regional head candidates can be defeated due to money politics, and that must be reported,” he continued.

Nevertheless, the Deputy Chairperson of PAN remains confident that the implementation of the regional elections will proceed smoothly and without significant turmoil.

“We are confident that the implementation of the upcoming regional elections will run smoothly without any disturbances, because throughout the election process, the regional elections have been conducted without any turmoil or dynamics in the community,” he said.
