The Ministry of Transportation predicts that the number of air passengers during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 (Nataru) period will reach 3.9 million, an increase of 4 percent compared to the same period last year.

Acting Director General of Air Transportation, Lukman F. Laisa, explained that they will operate the Nataru Post from December 19, 2024, to January 3, 2025.

The total number of passengers estimated during the implementation of the post reached 3,912,224 people, consisting of 3,048,148 domestic passengers and 864,076 international passengers.

“The figure is 4 percent higher compared to last year’s Nataru. We ensure that the air transportation capacity for Nataru 2024 has been met with a total of 417 aircraft units,” said Lukman, Thursday (28/11/2024).

Peak Holiday Traffic

The peak of the Christmas homecoming traffic is expected to occur on December 21, 2024, with the number of passengers reaching 297,129, consisting of 240,413 domestic and 56,716 international. Meanwhile, the peak of the New Year holiday traffic is predicted to occur on December 28, 2024, with a total of 260,196 passengers.

For the peak return flow, it is estimated to occur on January 3, 2025, with the number of passengers reaching 259,816, including 202,820 domestic and 56,996 international.

The Ministry will also monitor 56 airports for domestic flights with 266 routes, as well as 17 airports for international flights with 129 routes.

Airplane Ticket Prices Drop by 10 Percent

In support of the smoothness of Nataru, the government has set a policy to reduce airline ticket prices by 10 percent during the period from December 19, 2024, to January 3, 2025. This policy was announced after President Prabowo Subianto held a limited meeting with the ministers of the Merah Putih Cabinet.

“The price of domestic flight tickets has decreased by 10 percent at all airports in Indonesia,” said the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation, Elba Damhuri, on Wednesday (27/11/2024).

This decrease in ticket prices is made possible through reductions in avtur prices, airport service taxes, and fuel surcharge compensation for airlines.

Elba hopes that this policy will bring good news to the public who will be traveling during the Nataru period and will be able to support the domestic economy and tourism.
