The Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann, could not confirm when Indonesia could join this alliance. However, he assured that the process is being expedited as much as possible. “There is no set deadline. The process will proceed as quickly as possible, but it does take time,” said Mathias when asked by reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex on Thursday (28/11/2024).
Mathias also explained that so far there are no obstacles for Indonesia to join as a member of the OECD. According to him, the most important thing is that the reforms being implemented can benefit the society, especially in terms of increasing income and living standards.

They are also currently working to support reforms in Indonesia related to global best practice and in line with OECD standards, in order to boost economic, social, and environmental performance in Indonesia.
“Currently, we are working through that process to support further positive reforms in Indonesia moving forward,” said Mathias.
On that occasion, he also commented on the support from US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer regarding Indonesia’s accession to becoming an OECD member in a recent bilateral meeting. According to him, this reaffirms Indonesia’s strong commitment to the OECD accession process.
“I am very much looking forward to working with his team to expedite and facilitate this process,” he said.
