Indonesian Millennial Movers Call Out Misconception Regarding the Proposal for the Police to Become Part of the Ministry of Home Affairs

Jakarta, the police are currently under scrutiny following the 2024 regional elections, with some parties even proposing to place the institution under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Regarding this matter, the National Coordinator of Indonesian Millennial Movers (PMI), M Adhiya Muzakki, responded to the proposal. According to him, the proposal is misguided.

Adhiya said that the National Police must remain independent in carrying out its duties.

“Of course, that is a misguided proposal. The police must remain independent in carrying out their duties,” said Adhiya in his statement, Tuesday (3/12/2024).

He stated that the accusation of the police’s involvement in the 2024 regional elections must be based on evidence. According to Adhiya, so far the police have performed their security duties very well, allowing the presidential and regional elections to proceed safely and orderly.

“Of course, we must appreciate that. After all, public satisfaction with the police is still relatively high. This means that the police’s performance is good,” he added.

Adhiya requested that the public should not respond to that baseless idea.

“We respect every idea and concept in democracy, but if those ideas and concepts are not worth consuming, silence might be wiser,” he concluded.
