Hasto PDIP Condemns DPR’s Ethics Council for Sanctioning Yulius Setiarto

Jakarta-The Honorary Council of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MKD) of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) imposed a written reprimand on Commission I member of the DPR from the PDIP faction, Yulius Setiarto, due to his statement regarding the non-neutrality of police officers in the 2024 regional elections through the “Brown Party.”

Regarding this matter, the DPP PDIP, through its secretary-general, Hasto Kristiyanto, condemned the DPR’s MKD decision.

“We encourage Brother Yulius to never stop, because every member of the DPR has the freedom to express themselves, freedom, and is also protected by the right of immunity, so what happened in the MKD also shows how the hegemony of power works,” said Hasto at the Party School in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, Wednesday (4/12/2024).

He regretted the step taken by the DPR RI’s MKD in imposing a reprimand sanction on Yulius Setiarto.

According to Hasto, the MKD should provide protection for every member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, regardless of their faction, when they are working to voice the truth.

“So we will provide advocacy, and if necessary, a trial should be held so that the public can know,” explained Hasto.

Previously, the term “Partai Coklat” referred to the alleged involvement of police officers in the political process, particularly the 2024 regional elections.

The Chairman of the MKD DPR RI, Nazaruddin Dek Gam, read the decision in the MKD deliberation meeting at the Parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (3/12/2024).

“Based on legal and ethical considerations, the MKD decided that the respondent, Mr. Yulius Setiarto, SH. MH No. member A234 from the PDIP faction, was proven to have violated the code of ethics and was given a written reprimand,” said Nazaruddin in the MKD meeting room.

MKD’s Decision is Final and Binding

Nazaruddin stated that the MKD’s decision is final and binding as of its reading.

Yulius Setiarto was reported to the MKD following his statement on his personal TikTok account, which touched on police interference in the 2024 regional elections.

In his explanation, Yulius mentioned that in his post, he asked the Chief of Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, to clarify the findings of Bocor Alus Politik released by Tempo.

Because, Bocor Alus Politik revealed several allegations of involvement by police officers or the Coklat Party in the 2024 regional elections.

It is known that Yulius was reported by a resident from Bekasi, West Java, named Ali Lubis, regarding a statement Yulius uploaded through his TikTok account on November 25, 2024.

In the video, Yulius responded to the findings of Bocor Alus Politik released by Tempo regarding the alleged involvement of the police apparatus in the 2024 regional elections.

“The police are actively rallying support to win the candidates backed by Mulyono,” said Yulius in the video he uploaded.

Mulyono is the childhood name of President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi. Yulius believes that the deployment of apparatus to win certain contestants is a serious violation that can threaten the integrity of the state.

Therefore, he requested National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to clarify the findings of Bocor Alus Politik within 24 hours.
