KPK Conducts 5 OTTs in Riau, Nurul Ghufron: We Haven’t Found the Perfect Cure for Corruption

Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Nurul Ghufron, expressed concern over the involvement of the Acting Mayor of Pekanbaru, Risnandar Mahiwa (RM), who was caught in a Sting Operation. (OTT). He highlighted the recurring corruption cases in Riau Province despite various eradication efforts.

“The KPK is very ironic, saddened because in Riau Province this might be the fifth time. Also, the one known in Bengkulu yesterday might be the third, so it’s almost repetitive, but we still haven’t found the perfect remedy to eradicate corruption,” said Ghufron at a press conference at the KPK Building, Wednesday (4/12/2024).

The KPK noted that although OTT often yields results and brings perpetrators to prison, corruption practices continue to occur, even involving state officials. Various efforts, including education and anti-corruption prevention strategies, seem to be insufficient to address this issue.

“Therefore, we hope that in the future there will be no more OTTs on local governments that keep recurring.” Hopefully, this will be the last for Riau, for Pekanbaru, regarding these OTTs,” added Ghufron.

“Actually, the KPK hopes that there will be no corruption in Indonesia. With the methods being implemented, such as preventive education, all our strategies are aimed at eradicating corruption,” he emphasized.
