Lampung – The Jagantara ship, carrying hundreds of passengers, ran aground in the waters of South Lampung on Saturday night (7/12/2024) around 21:20 WIB. The ship was sailing from Bakauheni Port, South Lampung, to Merak Port, Banten.

From the photos and videos circulating, joint officers from the TNI, Polri, and Basarnas can be seen evacuating the passengers of the Jagantara ship.

The Chief of Police of South Lampung, AKBP Yusriandi Yusrin, confirmed the incident.

“Yes, the incident occurred last night.” The Jagantara ship ran aground near Kandang Lunik Island, precisely at the coordinates S05°52’47.14 E105°45’59.07 (-05.8798, 105.7664),” said Yusriandi, Sunday (8/12/2024).

After receiving the report, the joint team immediately moved to the location to evacuate the passengers. According to Yusriandi, the ship ran aground due to bad weather.

“The weather last night was very extreme. High waves and strong currents caused the ship to be tossed around. This condition also affected the captain’s visibility,” he explained.

Until now, the evacuation process is still being carried out by the joint team. Yusriandi assured that there were no casualties in the incident.

“Thank God, there were no casualties in this incident. We will continue to monitor until all passengers are safely evacuated,” he concluded.

The evacuation process remains a priority, and the authorities urge the public to remain vigilant against the extreme weather conditions that have been occurring frequently lately.
