Jakarta The Spokesperson for the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), Adita Irawati, stated that there are three main messages conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto regarding natural disasters and their management.
First, Prabowo emphasized the importance of a “present state,” being alert and swift in responding to natural disasters.
Adita has requested the ranks in the central and regional ministries to provide a quick and precise emergency response. Prabowo acknowledged that the trained personnel of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas National and Regional) and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) as first responders have demonstrated superior capacity.
“Coordination between the central government, regional governments, and the community to respond to disasters has occurred in a short time, yet remains effective,” explained Adita as quoted from the press release, Tuesday (12/24/2024).
Second, Prabowo wants resilient and sustainable infrastructure development such as buildings, roads, government offices, and other infrastructure that are strong and disaster-resistant. This is considered important to reduce the impact of disasters.
“Including the use of technology.” The presence of early warning systems, digital disaster maps created by BNPB, and weather forecasts and modifications by BMKG are very important in enriching and updating contingency plans,” explained Adita.
“Lastly and no less importantly, solidarity and mutual cooperation,” he continued.
Accelerate Disaster Response
Adita said that community solidarity will make disaster response and rehabilitation faster and lighten the burden on the victims.
For example, working together to clear debris, providing temporary shelters, and distributing logistical aid and psychosocial support.
“Early warning system, technological support, must remain linked with solidarity and mutual assistance.” Thus, Indonesia can become a more advanced, sovereign, prosperous, and resilient country in facing disasters,” concluded Adita.
