Situbondo – The flash flood that struck hundreds of houses in two villages in Situbondo on Tuesday (24/12/2024) caused the inter-village bridge to be damaged and swept away. As a result, around 500 people in two villages were isolated.
The bridge connecting the two hamlets, namely Dusun Tambak Ukir Barat and Dusun Bringin, Desa Tambak Ukir, is the only access for hundreds of residents of the two hamlets, which was swept away by a flash flood.
“The bridge that was swept away by the flash flood is the only access for the residents of Dusun Tambak Ukir Barat and Dusun Bringin, and of course, economic activities have also come to a standstill,” said the Head of Dusun Tambak Ukir Barat, Alfin, on Friday (27/12/2024).
He said that before the flash flood, heavy rain with high intensity occurred in the area for about 1 hour, and the water flow in the river reached a height of 150 cm, sweeping away the bridge.
According to him, the river has never been as high as it is this year when it rains. Usually, if there is heavy rain, the river’s water level reaches a maximum of 50 centimeters.
“But the flash flood last Tuesday even reached 150 centimeters, causing the bridge to collapse and be swept away,” he explained.
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Situbondo Regency recorded that 220 houses were affected by flash floods, specifically in Tambak Ukir Village and Kendit Village, Kendit District, Situbondo.

In addition, the flash flood that carried mud, wood, and branches also damaged public facilities, such as a mosque and one kindergarten school in Kendit Village, and three bridges were swept away by the flash flood.
The local government has set up a communal kitchen to provide ready-to-eat rice for residents affected by the flash flood, as they are unable to carry out their usual activities after the two villages were hit by the flash flood.
